The newly revamped version of the 2008 Saturn VUE Green Line (Hybrid) is much more attractively designed both inside and out and The engine consists of a combination of a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that together deliver 172 horsepower. The electric motor is recharged via regenerative braking and kicks in when the car is brought to a stop and during deceleration, thus saving fuel. In addition to having the best mpg ratings for a mid-size hybrid SUV, the VUE Hybrid Green Line has also beat out some of the most popular hybrid sedans, despite its larger size, heavier weight and increased utility. Gas mileage is rated at 25mpg in the city, 32mpg on the highway and the base model starts at just under $25,000. The exterior has been redesigned for the 2008 model year to reflect European design elements that include a sweeping, more rounded and less angular profile and sporty side vents. We liked the styling a lotand how often do you hear us say that? The interior is new and features a more refined appearance, comfortable seating and intuitively placed operational controls. Though it’s roomy enough to seat five adults, that left less than 30 cubic feet of space for cargo. It increases to 56 cubic feet with the rear seats down, with a cargo net. Although there is no third-row option like some other mid-size SUVs, rear passengers enjoy the luxury of comfy, reclining seats with a fold-down center armrest and storage compartment. Storage is more than ample in the locking glove compartment up front, which is large enough to hold a laptop computer or pocketbook in addition to your owner's manual. This includes an 8-year/100,000 mile hybrid component warranty, one year of OnStar, 24-hour roadside assistance, head curtain side air bags, side thorax airbags, passenger sensing system, traction control, pedal release system, remote keyless entry, theft deterrent system, one-year XM radio, and a six-speaker, MP3 format AM/FM audio system and battery rundown protection. The ride is smooth and the vehicle handles well thanks to a McPherson strut suspension system and responsive steering. Like many mid-size SUV's, this one performs best on paved roads and during inclement weather (although it has the ability to go off-road.) The 2008 Saturn VUE is well equipped, stylish and a very good value for the money. With the Saturn Vue Green Line, Going Green doesn’t mean seeing the green go from your wallet. R&D
