The Ride&Drive Archives is amazingly comprehensive in its coverage of the history of the American automobile industry. Indeed, our images go back to the earliest days of motoring — even beyond. (If you need a picture of the Studebaker carriage Lincoln took to the theater, we've got it.)

Many of our images are actual photos, such as the 1905 Franklin shown in the Early Cars Gallery and that was taken from a carte de visite the proud owner sent to a friend in 1906. Others, such as the stunning Studebaker convertible sedan shown here from the Classic Era Gallery, are beautiful art renderings that appeared in catalogs and advertisements.

From the post-World War II era we have original press photos by the thousands on most makes, such as those in Early Postwar Gallery, as well as beautiful advertising images there and in the Muscle Cars Gallery. We can supply cars of the modern era, too (see the Modern Cars Gallery). In sum, there are very few American cars for which we cannot supply images of one kind or another suitable to almost any purpose you might have in mind.

We didn't forget the people who created the industry, either. The man at left is Alfred Sloan, the legendary management genius who headed General Motors for 35 years. In the Early Cars Gallery, you will find a photograph of GM's legendary Charles F. Kettering, the inventor of the self-starter and the modern automotive electrical system. We have many other images on file of the leaders of the industry since its inception.

Nor is our material limited to American cars — or even to cars. We have thousands of truck images and thousands more on foreign cars and trucks. Check out the Foreign Cars Gallery for a sample of our foreign car material on file.

We can even supply images of cars not yet offered to the public, such as the exciting Model Year 2000 Honda roadster shown below. Our contacts with manufacturers all over the world enable us to tap into an almost endless resource when needed.

We even have a small, but significant section devoted to steamships. Check out the Titanic Gallery for some fascinating large-format photographs taken in 1912 by the shipyard, Harland and Wolff, and some beautiful White Star Line art renderings.

As an ad hoc portfolio of our archives, the galleries below offer at least a taste of the breadth and depth of the images we have on file — but only that. Many of these images have been used on Ride&Drive online and all of them are, of necessity, low resolution.
